Autumn, like the Spring is a good time to get your house looking its best – having a clear out and giving your home a makeover, as well as doing any odd jobs in the house and garden that need to be done. As the seasons change, our lifestyles do too, so now is the time to focus on the cosy warm evenings indoors and making your home look its best for the festivities of the Christmas season – whether you are having a big party for all your friends or having the family round for Christmas dinner, getting all those things done in the home now is a good idea so that when December comes you just need to focus on putting up the tree and having fun!
The first thing to do is to have a good old clear out. In the garden, get rid of any weeds, mow the lawn and cut back bushes, trees and plants like roses now before the winter sets in. You could also plant some bulbs for next year – daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells are all native plants, and are a joy to see when they come up in the spring. Don’t forget to protect your garden furniture from the winter weather by storing it away in a garage or shed or get some protective covers for it to keep it safe from the winter elements.
The house as well is somewhere to sort out – clear out kids toys that they no longer use – donate them to a charity shop where they can be used again, as this will make room for the new Christmas toys to come in!
Make repairs around the home now too – if you have things that need to be sorted out, such as leaky taps or broken fenceposts, now is the time to get it sorted. The bad weather over the winter will only make some of the problems worse, so getting on top of things now is the best thing to do. Clear out the gutters too, as this is a time when the falling autumn leaves can wreak havoc on drains and gutters!
If your home is in need of a bit of a re-vamp, think about changing it up a bit. New paint or wallpaper can make a tired looking room look fresh and modern – if you are not confident with wallpapering, get someone like this painters Cheltenham based company https://jsdecorating.co.uk/ in to help you with your painting and decorating needs.
Have a look at colour schemes and get some interior design magazines or use Pinterest or Instagram to get inspiration before just deciding on a colour. Create a mood board and work out the colours and textures that look good together and what will work well in your home – not just over the winter but for the future.
