As we can see, it is actually best to make the transition when the child is 3 years old, whenever possible. Thus, if we observe that the little one is constantly trying to get out of the crib, then it might be a good idea to move him to his new bed for safety.

Developmentally, young children may not yet be quite ready to climb out of the crib and sleep alone in their small bed. For example, use a sleeping bag or lower the base of the crib to prevent it from falling.

What to consider when choosing a toddler bed

It is clear that one of the most important elements to consider when choosing a bed for toddlers is everything that has to do with safety. This means, for example, that a toddler bed should have rails on the sides, which will help prevent you from falling out of bed.

It is advisable to choose rails similar to those of the crib, which are not solid flat, since bedding and pillows can easily get caught in them, and may represent a risk to the child.

It is also appropriate to opt for beds that sit close to the ground, which will help in a very positive way that our child can get on and off easily, without the risk of falling.

Design

It is also recommended to keep in mind that young children are moving from a fully enclosed bed (crib) to a semi-enclosed bed. This is why it is important to maintain as much consistency as possible in the look, experience, and feel of the new bed.

However, if we discover that our child is especially enthusiastic about a particular style, then we should let him express himself and, if possible, opt for it.
