With automation on the rise across all sectors and industries, it has never been more important to boost data literacy skills across your workforce.

As this Harvard Business School article explains, data can be used to make more informed business decisions, which is likely to drive better outcomes. Here are 4 simple ways to boost your data literacy.

1. Establish clear goals

Without a clear goal in mind, achieving success is essentially impossible. It may be a worthwhile time investment to think about what good data literacy looks like for you, paying particularly close attention to the differences that will naturally exist between different departments within your organisation.

2. Incentivise the process

Improving data literacy skills can be a hard sell, but incentivising the process can be a great way to ensure that everyone is on board with your goals. There are a number of different ways to approach this, including running team-building events, prizes and other perks that you know your team will respond well to.

3. Encourage knowledge sharing

There is so much value within data, which is why it is important to ensure that it isn’t compartmentalised within different departments. Organising knowledge-sharing opportunities between different teams in your organisation can be extremely beneficial, so make it easy for your teams to meet and exchange ideas, thoughts and data. You can also think about whether there are any external groups or industry experts that can help to expand your knowledge base to further your business objectives.

4. Remove barriers

There are numerous factors that can hinder data literacy and access to relevant technologies and applications is often one of the most significant barriers. Working with a data collection company, such as shepper.com/, can help you to ensure that you are consistently using real-time, accurate data to inform every business decision made across your organisation.

Your company culture can also help to minimise data literacy barriers. By normalising the process of obtaining key data literacy skills, your team will be empowered to continually progress, learn new things, and ensure that data is being used correctly across your business.
