How do you Remove Mould from Bathroom Sealant?

Sealant is used around the bath, shower and sink areas to form a watertight seal around the edges. This helps to prevent leaks and other water damage to the surrounding walls and flooring. These seals can become susceptible to mould spots.

Mould is a microscopic fungus that thrives in damp areas. The spores are released into the surrounding atmosphere in large numbers, and they can cause the onset of respiratory illness, allergies, asthma and infections.

Because of the damp conditions associated with bathroom areas, this is one of the most common places in the home where mould spores can multiply quickly and easily. It can start with the simple cumulative effect of activities such as taking a daily shower.

Cleaning Sealant

Mould along the nooks and crevices in the bathroom can be unsightly and difficult to shift with conventional cleaning. Luckily there is a quick, simple, and incredibly cheap way of managing unsightly mould spots and getting rid of them, involving little elbow grease and leaving your bathroom looking sparkling.

Simply run a line of bleach around the bathroom sealant and other affected areas that have succumbed to mould spots. Place absorbent cotton pads around the area to hold the bleach in place. After removing the cotton and thoroughly rinsing the area, the mould should have disappeared completely.

Prevent further mould and mildew by ensuring that your bathroom is well-ventilated. Options include the installation of a fan that will help to circulate air, ensuring that a door is left open after use, or manually drying down surfaces after use.

Bathroom Sealant

A great alternative to a silicone sealant, which is susceptible to weakening and evaporation, is a powerful hybrid polymer formulation that contains no solvents. This water-resistant formula is ideal for bathroom use, as it actively deters water, leading to mould and bacteria resistance and protection against leaks. Before using any sealant, ensure that the area is clean, dry, and free from grease or debris.
