Submit Your Application (the Easy Part!)
Wait About a Week First
Hiring managers are usually operating within a Branch and also Recruitment function, so waiting about a week for a follow up contact is sufficient to show your interest in the role without appearing to be off putting.
Choose the Right Channel
Email is best as it allows the hiring manager to check for your application and then get back to you. A phone call can also be used, but it’s best to ring in the middle of the morning when the branch is less busy.
Keep Your Message Short and Warm
Here’s an example of a short follow-up email: “Hi, I recently applied for [role] at your [branch name] branch and just wanted to check whether you need anything further from me. I’m keen on the opportunity and would be happy to have a chat at a time to suit you.”
Stay Productive While You Wait
As the applications will be left live on the listings page while the Hiring Manager considers them, this will allow the candidate to see if any new jobs have been posted or if the Hiring Manager is actively filling positions for the specific branch where the candidate applied.

If You Still Hear Nothing
After another 5 days or so, try a brief follow-up and then drop it. Most applications receive no response at all, and chasing beyond 2 attempts can give a very poor impression.
A thoughtful follow-up shows that you are still interested in the job and helps keep you visible without being pushy, and this is what a good employer looks for.
