Always Watching

We are so used to the CCTV cameras, we don’t even notice that they exist. These cameras are used in places like stores, restaurants and streets. They can also be found at airports, hospitals, hotels, casinos and even in the home. In fact, cameras can be viewed anywhere there are people.

The CCTV system can be used in areas where it is not safe to have people around, such as factories, when a process would best be observed from the central control room. This category includes processes in the chemical industry as well as the interior of reactors and facilities that produce nuclear fuel. Around 350 million surveillance cameras were installed in the last year. Body-worn cameras are used by some frontline professionals to improve their personal safety.

In the 1990s, technology improved to allow for more simultaneous recording of cameras. Time lapse and motion capture became possible. The use of CCTV increased as a result. Internet use has been a recent change. For CCTV Installation Worcester, visit apmfireandsecurity.com/cctv-installation/cctv-installation-worcester/

Crime prevention has been at the heart of CCTV since its inception. New York was the first to install cameras on the main commercial street to deter crime in 1968. CCTV is seen as an affordable alternative to expanding the police force. In 1987, King’s Lynn in Norfolk, UK was the first place to use CCTV. Cameras are everywhere in our cities, towns, parking lots, and homes.

The CCTV system is also important in the monitoring of traffic. The majority of cities and highways use CCTV systems for recording accidents and monitoring congestion. Private companies can own it and send data to GPS devices in vehicles or mobile phones. The Department of Highways owns more than 3000 camera systems that cover the motorway network and trunk roads in England.
